Living Happily With My Husband Who Loves The Opposite Things

I moved to the USA and started living with my husband in the summer of 2008. I admire him and I am proud of him because he is a hardworking man and had saved enough money to pay off his house before I arrived. I remember when we first knew each other, he told me the mortgage still had five more years left. But he paid it off within only a couple of years, at the age of 30.

His house is small, two stories. There are two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and one half‑bath. There is a kitchen and an open living room, or I can call it a family room. My favorite area is the back deck. There are many trees around the house and a green yard. There is an old Jacuzzi on the deck that came with the house when he bought it. We used it a few times before a leak ruined it and caused water waste.

We sometimes grill on the deck. He makes his American burgers while I make skewer pork‑balls and butter‑sugar toast. I like to lay on a mat and watch YouTube videos on my laptop.

I also enjoy staying in a tent on the deck. I first had a half‑tent, and later I got a full tent because I was scared of the bees. They flew around me every time I sat outside.

I once got bitten by a yellow jacket, and it was very painful. At first, I thought they were bees, but after looking it up on the internet, I learned what they really were.

I lived in Thailand, where fluorescent lights are the usual light source, but my husband’s house has zero ceiling lights. He uses table lamps and a chandelier at the dining table. I learned about my man and live with what he likes just fine. He likes to stay in the dark at night, watching TV quietly. The chandelier only turns on at supper time after sunset in the dark room. The lamp is used when he needs to see something or read.

Recently, he uses a flashlight. He has many flashlights, haha. I have no problem with the way he lives. I stay in my computer room upstairs most of the time, and I turn on my floor lamp because I prefer a bright room while he stays in the bedroom watching TV in the dark.

I have two funny situations to tell about his dark‑room preference while watching TV. You can laugh, but not too loud, okay? LOL

First, I sit at the dining table and eat in the dark all the time to give him the dark room he likes while watching TV. Why? Because it is an open area where we set the couch, coffee table, and TV near the front door and stairs. Move in a bit, and his computer desk is against the wall. Opposite that is the kitchen, where the dining table is set against the wall. The sliding door opens to the old wooden deck. Now you can imagine how the room looks. For me, I have no problem at all.

Note: AI were creating many images of the dining table scene which I wanted the table against the kitchen wall and the entrance is line up at where I sit but AI cannot create as I wanted so I chose these images which the most closely to what I wanted.

Note: friends talk cartoons are funny at the husband part. I told AI after I saw the images, if adding a comic crack line then that would not look like a thief in the scene. haha

One day, we had a Thai guest. She was a friend of our friend who lived with us at that time. The friend had lived in the USA longer than us in another state. She came here to visit her friend. I told her the situation — that we must stay in the dark when my husband watches TV downstairs — and she had no problem with it. I didn’t tell her about keeping quiet because I had already talked to my husband about talking in the room while he watched TV, and he accepted it.

Well, when she was here, I told her to keep her voice down, and she did without hesitation. We were talking nonstop, and then my husband turned off the TV and walked upstairs with an upset face. Haha. I knew our “low voice” was still annoying him.

Second, I had another Thai guest who I knew in Thailand. I knew her online, and she also has an American husband. She came from another state on the East Coast, not far from me. The first person lived in a state at the very top of the USA map, very far away. According to my husband’s preference, I told this friend what we could or could not do about the dark room and quiet. This time, nothing bothered my husband at all, but I felt sorry for my friend. Haha.

I do this for everyone who wants to visit and stay overnight. If anyone cannot accept it, then sorry — we cannot have them. My husband is always my first priority.
