The Scene I Still Don’t Understand
July 3, 2025
I watched 28 Years Later with my husband, and there was one scene that completely confused me. A boy found out his mother had cancer, and then a scientist killed her right away. It happened so fast. I didn’t understand why they made it like that. Why not let her live normally and die naturally? Why make the boy sad like that?
I asked my husband to explain, but the English words he used were too complicated for me. I still didn’t get the meaning behind it.
After the movie, I asked him, “How was it?” He said, “It was okay, but not as good as the first one.” I didn’t even know there was a first one.
We walked to the parking lot, and two teenage boys were walking beside us. I asked them if they liked the movie. They said, “Yeah, it was good.”
So in one moment, I had three different reviews: my husband’s “meh,” my confused brain, and two teenagers who loved it.
And that’s how I realized: sometimes the movie is not the problem — it’s just that everyone watches with different background knowledge, different expectations, and different English levels. And sometimes the story is simply too complicated for me to understand… and that becomes a funny memory instead.
